KOCHMAN'S KORNER

I was born in Astoria, NY and moved with my family to Hicksville, NY in 1955.  After getting married and starting a family we moved to Cheshire in1986.  I worked in the optical industry until 2005 after which I decided to pursue a career in my lifetime love of photography.  In 2006 I opened a photography studio in the south end of Cheshire.  I have since retired giving me time to travel while remaining active with photography.  Thus, I am creating a page in our e-magazine Cheshire Today, to show some of my photos and speak about my travels

OUR NATIONAL PARK GETAWAY
May 1st -May 25th 2024

Our first stop was in Albuquerque NM at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center which was very informative and entertaining. After spending the evening there we continued on to The Grand Canyon NP. It is a specular, vast, colorful wonder of nature. Next stop was Bryce Canyon NP in Utah which gave us some incredible views of what the wind and rain did to create the hoodoos. Moving on to Zion NP we experienced breathtaking landscape and great areas to hike. The next stop was not a National Park but it was The Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. It was visually stunning with the towering red sandstone buttes and mesas. After our stop here we found the mile post marker where they filmed "Forrest Gump" ending his cross country run. Continuing on we stopped at Antelope Canyon X known for its stunning, sculpted sandstone walls and Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River. We passed through Canyonland NP, where you can see ancient petroglyphs some of which were carved as far back as 5500BC. We then made our way to Arches NP. This Park is famous for the worlds highest concentration of natural sandstone arches. We headed north through Utah and Idaho into Wyoming ending up in The Grand Teton NP. This was one of the most beautiful scenic parks of our trip. Just north of Teton NP is America's first NP Yellowstone. The park is known for its geothermal features, abundant wildlife and vast landscape. Our last NP stop was on our way back east Mount Rushmore NP. We ended our adventure at the unfinished Crazy Horse Memorial. This trip covered in total 9300 miles.

In 2021 & 2022 I went on safari to Tanzania. We visited: the Serengeti NP; Tarangire NP; Lake Manyara NP; Arusha NP; Mount Kilimanjaro NP and Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.  Our safari guide was Exaud Marandu, owner of Utopia Safaris. He was knowledgeable about every area, animal and resort.  My wife and I spent a total of 25 incredible days in Africa, seeing not only the big 5 (elephants, leopards, lions, rhinoceros and cape buffaloes) but also: hippopotamus; crocodiles; giraffes; hyenas; warthogs; jackals; monkeys and many species of birds.

I will be adding many of the photos from my adventure in the future for your viewing enjoyment. If you have any questions or thoughts simply go to the Contact Button at the top of the page and send us a message.
