"Here Are Those Often-Mentioned Pennies For Your Thoughts"
I found a well-worn penny in my change one day. It happened to be next to a newer penny.
It was surprising to me, the difference that time and the minute changes that thousands, possibly
millions of fingertips could have on metal. I was moved to compose this poem.
I then asked my friend, the late Andrew Skolnick, a professional photographer I was partnering
with on a set of filmstrips (filmstrips...what are filmstrips), to take the photos. At the time, I was
employed at the Wallingford Post newspaper and editor Neil Hogan agreed to publish it.
It made the pages of the Cheshire Herald some years later and now you get to check it out in
honor of President's Day, 2026, Ron Gagliardi
